How it works

With reev’s home charging for company cars, private and business charging sessions at the home charging station are separated and recorded precisely. The subsequent reimbursement is processed either through the monthly submission of expense receipts* or automatically upon request (as determined by the employer)**. Authorization at the charging station is managed via the reev App, an RFID-enabled employee ID card, or an RFID charging card.

FAQ

Who covers the costs for the charging station for company vehicles, the station, and the license?

Funding for charging company cars at home must be individually arranged between the driver and employer. Cost coverage can also be established in a general eCar policy for the company.

At what electricity rate do drivers charge at home?

Drivers charge at their local, residential electricity rate. During registration, they must provide their electricity rate and upload proof (e.g., electricity bill, contract), which is verified for authenticity.

Employers can find the specified rate in the side menu for each driver, with a direct link to the uploaded proof. Additionally, employers receive an automatic email notification whenever an updated rate is submitted (the email is sent to the primary contact listed in the dashboard).

Drivers can use the reev App to set a new electricity rate for a future date or adjust the rate retroactively for the current month.

What is the billing period, and at what level are the expense receipts created?

Expense receipts are created monthly for all authorized drivers’ business home charging sessions. The receipt serves as the basis for tax-free expense reimbursement. Reimbursement (automated) is provided by the employer directly to the employees. The type of billing (automatic or manual) is uniformly set by the employer and cannot be selected individually for each driver.

How can drivers view their consumption?

Drivers have access to the reev App, which allows them to view their charging history and control charging sessions remotely. In addition, receipts for home charging sessions are sent to them monthly via email.

Can other users use the home charging station?

Generally, access restriction must be configured at the home charging station to ensure individual consumption tracking and legally compliant billing. In the case of shared use, other users such as partners, neighbors, or guests may also be authorized to charge. For this setup, it’s recommended to coordinate with the employer on an authentication system.

Example:

  • The company car driver authorizes business charging at the station via the reev App.
  • The driver authorizes private charging via a separate RFID card.
  • Additional users authorize charging via another RFID card.

This setup enables shared use while ensuring separate and precise tracking of each user’s charging sessions. Only business-related charging costs incurred by the driver are sent to the employer.

Are there any technical requirements for the charging station?

To achieve legally compliant billing according to the reev model, the hardware must include a MID meter and support backend connectivity. The charging station does not need to be calibration law-compliant. reev software is compatible with all standard hardware manufacturers and models; a comprehensive list can be found here.

Network connectivity must be ensured at the installation location, as the station communicates via SIM card. Contact an eMobility-certified electrician to assist with installation.

Can reev software be integrated into existing charging stations?

If the charging station meets the technical requirements, reev software can also be integrated into an existing home charging station. To enable reev software, order a reev Connect Set (including a setup kit and one or more license keys).

What tax and legal considerations should employers keep in mind?

Reimbursing charging costs qualifies as a regular, tax-free expense reimbursement. No invoices or credit notes are issued between reev and employees and/or reev and the company or employer, thus employees are not considered service providers (e.g., electricity sellers). Accordingly, the cost of electricity for legally recorded business charging sessions can be reimbursed tax-free.
