Onboarding
- The payment terminal is installed on-site by a qualified electrician.
- A connection to the mobile network via LTE/LAN is required.
- The terminal’s serial number is sent to reev (detailed instructions are provided in the onboarding materials).
- reev integrates the terminal into the respective payment provider environments (this may take a few days).
- reev assigns the terminal to a user group named "reev Payment Terminal" in the reev Dashboard and sets the appropriate tariff.
Do not delete or rename the user group. Only the tariff can be adjusted.
Legal Background
According to the AFIR regulation (Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Regulation) from April 2024, newly installed charging stations with a capacity of 50 kW or more must offer card payment options. Operators of publicly accessible charging stations in Europe are obligated to provide common payment methods, such as credit and debit cards, for spontaneous charging.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How does payment at the reev Payment Terminal work?
- Drivers park their vehicle and connect the charging cable.
- They proceed to the Payment Terminal (ideally centrally located) and select the charging point using the EVSE ID.
- The charging rate and an authorization amount of €60 are confirmed.
- Payment is authorized by tapping a credit card or smartphone (Apple Pay / Google Pay).
- The charging process starts automatically once authorization is successful.
- After charging, the difference between the authorization amount and the actual price (charging rate per kWh) is released.
How does the payment process work for charging stations with locked charging cables?
In this case, authorization takes place before drivers connect their vehicle for charging.
Which payment methods are accepted?
The terminal accepts credit cards and contactless payment options like Google Pay and Apple Pay.
Is an app required for the payment process?
No, payments are made directly at the terminal—no app or additional contracts are needed.
If authorization fails, the driver is redirected to the start screen, and the charging process does not begin. A re-authorization attempt can be made.
How do drivers receive a receipt for their payment?
After authorization, drivers can scan a QR code at the Payment Terminal, leading to a webpage where they can enter their email address to receive a receipt. The receipt will be sent within a few days.
What costs are associated with the reev Payment Terminal?
- License Fee: €20 per month (billed annually)
- Transaction Fee: 5% of the total amount of all transactions processed through the terminal
Where does the money from charging sessions go?
- Drivers pay for the charging session as described.
- The payment is processed via the Elavon platform, which serves as the acquiring bank in this process.
- Monthly payments are consolidated and transferred to reev.
How do I, as the charging station operator, receive my money?
You will receive a consolidated payment at the end of each month for all charging sessions from the previous month, processed through Stripe.
Note: An advice of payment will be issued by reev instead of an invoice, as you are the service provider for the charging process. This document includes the transaction totals, references, and a summary of the receipts.
How is the transaction fee handled?
For the 5% monthly transaction fee based on the total processed through the payment terminal, a separate invoice will be generated via Stripe. This invoice is independent of the license fee and is not automatically deducted from your earnings.
